What is NEO Plastics? 

Neo Plastics™ is a sustainable packaging solution made for landfill disposal - energizing the future with today’s plastic waste. 

This alternative solution to plastic waste is built around education, awareness, and offering new sustainable alternatives for converting waste challenges into energy opportunities. 

How does the packaging feel? 

The packaging feels and looks quite similar to our original packaging but just a bit thicker and shinier, plus this one has a superpower - it makes green energy!

Does this packaging affect the taste of my coffee? 

Neo Plastics packaging keeps your coffee fresh for superior shelf life. Overall, the packaging is very similar to traditional plastic materials with no effect on taste. 

How does this packaging work? 

Neo Plastics is an organic additive that is combined with polymer to create packaging that can be converted into reusable energy when disposed of in a landfill. Once deposited into a landfill, waste creates biogas. 

This biogas can be collected, processed, and turned into clean energy to power homes, schools, and businesses. Currently, more than 600 managed waste facilities recover these biogases - that’s 80% of today’s waste in the United States!

How do I dispose of the packaging? 

After enjoying your coffee, you can dispose of the packaging in your regular trash. Once discarded into the landfill, Neo Plastics packaging helps accelerate the natural microbial process that creates biogas.

So, can I recycle this packaging? 

We do not recommend recycling this package as its purpose is to accelerate biogas production and create green energy. Most packaging is made of mixed multilayer films which cannot be recycled, so this is a great sustainable solution! 

What about composting the packaging? 

We do not recommend composting this packaging. It can only react to microbial activity present in anaerobic environments (a big science term for an environment without free oxygen) which is present in landfills, not at-home compost bins. 

It’s made for landfill disposal and helps create clean energy!

Why did we make the switch to NEO Packaging?

At the core of Good Citizen, we want to be good people who advocate for biodiversity, have true relationships with farmers, and deliver specialty coffee for future generations. We want the packaging we deliver our delicious coffee in to support these principles of sustainability, so we are transitioning to NEO Plastics packaging to support a better future.

Do NEO Plastics create micro-plastics in our environment? 

No, NEO Plastics packaging should not be confused with other additives or materials that break plastic into micro-plastics which are harmful to our water sources and soils.
